ArtCurato Privacy Policy

ArtCurato is built around a simple promise: your photos are yours. The app organizes the art and finds already in your photo library, entirely on your device. It does not collect your personal data, and your photos never leave your phone unless you choose to share one yourself.

The short version

We do not collect, store, or sell your personal information.
There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party trackers.
Your photos are read on your device to recognize and organize them. We never upload or keep copies of them.
Everything the app creates about your collection is stored locally on your device.

What the app accesses

With your permission, ArtCurato reads your photo library so it can find the artwork you photographed in museums and the street art, sculpture and landmarks (your finds) you came across out in the world. It reads your photos and their information (such as the date and, when present, the location the photo was taken). It has read-only access: it never edits, deletes, moves, re-tags, or otherwise changes your photos.

How your photos are processed

Recognition happens on your device using Apple's on-device image analysis. The app stores only a reference to each photo (its identifier in your library) plus the details it works out, such as which museum or city it belongs to. It does not keep copies of the photos themselves. All of this stays on your device.

Location

ArtCurato uses the location that your camera already saved inside a photo to group it by place. To turn those coordinates into a readable place name (a city, a street, a nearby landmark), the app uses Apple's geocoding service, which means the coordinates for a photo may be sent to Apple to look up the name. This is handled under Apple's own privacy policy. ArtCurato does not track your live location and does not use your device's GPS.

Network use

ArtCurato works almost entirely offline. It connects to the internet only to:

Download its list of museums and its "masterpiece of the day" content from a public web page we host,
Load public artwork images (for example from Wikimedia) to display alongside those masterpieces, and
Fetch a museum's public website icon to show as its logo in your list.

These are ordinary web requests. As with any website you load, the servers involved can see your device's IP address. No personal information and none of your photos are ever sent in these requests.

Sharing a photo or identifying it

If you tap "Identify this photo" or otherwise share a photo, iOS's standard share sheet opens and you choose where it goes (for example, Google Lens). This only ever happens when you initiate it. Once a photo leaves the app through the share sheet, it is handled by whatever app or service you chose, under their terms and privacy policies.

Data retention and deletion

Everything ArtCurato stores lives on your device. You can clear it at any time from Settings using "Clear and Reset My Curation," which removes the app's organization while leaving your photo library untouched. Deleting the app removes all of its data from your device.

Children's privacy

ArtCurato is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new "Last updated" date.
